In search of McDonald’s fried apple pie...

According to the McDonald’s timeline, the “baked apple pie replaces the fried apple pie on the standard menu” in 1992. Indeed, that was a sad decision, and fried apple pie enthusiasts grieved for the loss of their beloved pastry. However, in recent years, there has been a resurgence of the infamous dessert as it appears in McDonald’s restaurants located in Wal*Marts, airports, shopping malls, and overseas. Hurray for the return of McDonald’s fried apple pie! Also, kudos to Christopher Treadway for pioneering the appreciation of McDonald’s fried apple pie. His site, Chief Mötley Web Sürfer, contains a list of some places to find fried apple pie as well as a very appealing applet (pun intended) of scrolling pictures of our treasured dessert, so go check it out and be prepared to drool!

Well, it is time to find more restaurants that serve fried apple pie and share these locations with other fans across the globe! “(M)” indicates an entry obtained from the Chief Mötley Web Sürfer. “(F)” indicates an entry that resulted from this page being listed on Fark.com on December 17, 2001. If you have any additions or corrections, please contact Cynthia Tsao with the relevant information (including how you found out about this site), and it will be added to the list. I am also just beginning a photo album of fried apple pie boxes, especially from McDonald’s restaurants that are located outside of the United States.

In May 2008, the search continues!

Spurred on by a slew of fan support, we finally embark on an update that’s way overdue! Happy hunting!

In June 2008, a new development emerges!

I realize that most McDonald’s restaurants outside of the US serve fried apple pie -- the listings below primarily serve as an indication as to just how prevalent the tasty treat is when you “get out of the US”. However, if you check out the entry for “Poland” and “Vancouver, Canada”, you can see that a bad storm’s a-brewin’, and we can only hope that the awful “baked apple pie” trend doesn’t take over other major cities outside of the US.

On separate occasions, the Chief Mötley Web Sürfer and Wendy Teal (2/02) contacted McDonald's about fried apple pie. Based upon the responses they received, my guess is that McDonald’s gets complaints about baked apple pie a lot… =)

Hello Chief Mötley Web Sürfer:

Thank you for taking the time to contact McDonald's. I appreciate having this opportunity to share some information with you regarding McDonald's menu.

I'm sorry you're disappointed in our baked apple pie. You may be interested to know that approximately 90% of McDonald's restaurants currently serve baked apple pies. However, there are, in fact, a few restaurants that still serve our fried apple pies. Due to space constraints, most of our restaurants located in shopping malls and Wal*Mart department stores were unable to fit the baking oven required to prepare baked apple pies in the kitchen area. Therefore, these locations continue to serve our fried apple pies.

While there aren't any immediate plans to re-introduce the fried apple pie to our standard menu, please be assured that your feedback is very important to us. I've shared your comments with our Menu Management team for their on-going review.

Once again, thank you for taking the time to contact McDonald's. We look forward to serving you again soon under the Golden Arches.

Hello Wendy:

Thank you for contacting McDonald's.  I appreciate this opportunity to share some information with you about our menu items.

You may be interested to know that approximately 90% of McDonald's restaurants currently serve baked apple pies.  However, as you mentioned in your recent e-mail, there are in fact a few restaurants that still serve our fried apple pies.  Due to space constraints, most of our restaurants located in shopping malls and Wal*Mart department stores were unable to fit the baking oven required to prepare baked apple pies in the kitchen area. Therefore, these locations continue to serve our fried apple pies.  However, at this time, we have no plans to offer both apple pies.

Once again, thanks for taking the time to send us an e-mail and giving us an opportunity to share with you.
